I used Google translator. I know it may sound like a lazy choice, but it was deliberate because I have good experiences with it. When I needed to translate something to Spanish I used Google translator and the result was very good I can read Spanish relatively well but felt too insecure to compose a sentence myself -- but when Google translated I was able to see that the translation was very good

When a Russian friend of mine had her birthday I also used Google translator to surprise her with a message in Russian and she also said that it was quite well translated. So I was kinda confident that it was my best bet to compose it correctly in Hebrew

That said, I would love to learn Hebrew and have been looking for options to do so, but it is quite hard to find language schools here that offer that course. I thought of a language exchange but again it isnt easy to find people that are serious about it instead of just wanting to have some fun chatting rather than really learning a language. If only I could just move to Israel and enrol in an Ulpan ... But this language tool you mention which translates in real time, that sounds very good. Which program/site does that Google Wave thing? Is it something integrated in Gmail or so?

Direct translation can be very good to learn. When I lived in Germany I used translations of song lyrics while listening to the German language songs, and this helped me a lot to drastically improve my German.

Anyways, after this little off-topic rant... Again, congrats with the birthday and have a great year full of joy and expectations
